Marianske Lazne

Marianske Lazne (Marienbad) is the youngest of the famous West Bohemian spa triangle cities.It is located in Karlovy Vary Region, 25 km southeast of Cheb.
In Marienbad and area, there are 100 mineral springs with carbon dioxide and mineral salts, which is captured and used for 53 sources. It is a cold iron-rich mineral water, different chemical composition. The drinking therapies used 6 main sources: the Cross, Rudolph, Caroline, Forest and Ambrose. Mary’s spring, which gave the city the name, the spring of gas – carbon dioxide.
Sources and their healing properties were known long before the founding of the spa people from surrounding villages.

City History

The place where today is the second largest spa town, Marianske Lazne, was in ancient times full of swamps and completely deserted.
In 1197 it established a powerful and noble abbot in Warm – Horrible. The first attempts to establish a spa but could not.

Name Marienbad spa acquired under Mary’s spring, which was long before because of pervasive smell called Smelly – got its present name pursuant to the Marian image.
